“LET US HELP OUR KIN RETURN HOME! – FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR PRISONERS OF WAR”
The 1920 Prisoners of War set was issued by the Hungarian Post to help finance the repatriation of Hungarian soldiers who were still being held as prisoners of war after the end of the First World War.
The three-value set had a total face value of 2 korona. Purchasers paid an additional 8 korona surcharge for the charitable purpose.
A total of 1,500,000 perforated sets were produced, while imperforate examples are also known. Paper with Watermark VII was used; catalogues list and value separately stamps with the upright (VII) and sideways (VIIa) watermark.
Errors, Printing Flaws and Other Varieties
- On the 60 fillér + 2 korona value, the second letter I in HADIFOGLYAINK is sometimes replaced by a dot.
- On the 40 fillér value, a dot may be seen above the letter F of FILLÉR, adjacent to the frame line.
- Other plate flaws are also known and may command a premium.
