In 1947, the postal administration issued an eight-denomination definitive airmail set promoting tourist attractions in Hungary. The series is notable in several respects.
It was Hungary’s first series specifically intended to promote Budapest and several provincial towns as tourist destinations. It was also the first issued stamp designs by both Béla Kálna and Zoltán Nagy. Nagy later became one of Hungary’s best-known stamp designers, creating more than 200 stamps, whereas no further issued stamp designs by Kálna are known.
Another special feature is that this was the first issue for which the postal administration used a dedicated first-day cancellation; accordingly, Hungary’s first FDC (first-day cover) is also associated with this issue.
