Hungary · 1923

In 1923, the Hungarian Post issued a five-value commemorative set to mark the centenary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi. The stamps were sold with a 100% surcharge. Of the surcharge, 105 korona supported the National Association of Disabled War Veterans, Widows and Orphans, while the remaining 35 korona was divided between the Post’s welfare institution and the Petőfi Society.

The set was forged with a “Flugpost Wien” cancellation for collectors on unwatermarked paper.
