IV. Small Crown Watermark

The crown is shown from above in an asymmetric design.

The watermark extended across the entire sheet, and the designs were spaced so that each stamp would bear one complete crown figure. However, it was rare for a stamp to carry the full design; typically two or more design fragments appeared on each stamp. In the watermark, four crowns were centered, and a print sheet contained a single occurrence of a value watermark per sheet. It appears in sheet- and news stamps in the upright position and on the postage stamps in the inverted position. In both positions, all four watermark positions occur. For both the watermark position and the watermark orientation on every stamp, it can be determined, because to determine the watermark orientation, not only the crown cross but also the details of the asymmetric crown design are sufficient. When collecting watermark positions, the heraldically correct crown figure is taken as the baseline. Occurrence of the watermark: 1904 (1906) Turul, 1904 News Stamp, 1905 (1906) Green Port, 1915 Auxiliary Postage.
